BAPTISM AT SAINT EDWARD’S

MATEI CRISTEA, the infant son of Emanuil & Ana Cristea, was baptized at Saint Edward’s on Saturday, 29th September / 10th October, the feastday the Holy Martyr Callistratus, on the instructions of their spiritual father in Romania.  Daniel Vraciu stood as godfather to the newly-illumined baby.  As the family live far off, at Gorton, Manchester, the first, eighth and fortieth day prayers were read before the Mysterion of Baptism itself.  They stayed with the Vracius overnight, so that they could bring Matei for his first Holy Communion at the Sunday Liturgy next day.  May the Lord illumine Matei’s heart with the light of His countenance and maintain the shield of his faith unassailed for Many Years!

CONVENT PARISHIONERS MARRY

PREDRAG POPOVIC and Catherine Dunseath, both parishioners at the Convent in Willesden, were recently married in a civil ceremony in Britain, before journeying to Predrag’s home in Montenegro for a Church wedding there.  As the marriage service says, may they be made worthy “to obtain the blessings of the promise.”  Many Years!

THE ROOF IS RAISED!

MARSHELS Roofing Contractors Limited, of Runfold, Surrey, completed their work on the Church Roof on Friday 30th October (n.s).  Although there may still be a few minor things to attend to, the quality of their workmanship was excellent, above reproach, and now, for the first time in the 27 years we have been here, we shall be worshipping in a church which is structurally sound and in good condition.  We were also amazed by the marvellous job they did in cleaning up at the end of the work - it looked cleaner than when they started!  Our thanks to the architect-project manager, Irina Hoble-Aldersley of Eulinea Limited, to Marshells and their sub-contractors and their workers, Maria Petroudis, the structural engineer, and to Elizabeth Castle, our treasurer, who has had to deal with all the extra work on the financial side.  The whole building project - building the new monastery house, refurbishing the Old Mortuary and setting up the exhibition therein, and the re-roofing of Saint Edward’s Church has been a long haul.  From start to finish it has taken us nine years and one month.  There have been worries, frustrations and set-backs; but the generosity of our supporters has been unstinting and has seen us through, and the prayers, support and forbearance of all of you has been greatly appreciated.   But first and foremost: Thanks be unto our God!
