GIFT OF ICONS
IN A STRANGE REVERSAL of the usual practice, on her birthday, Ingrid Clapham of Chertsey kindly gave us gifts and donated two large icons, which she had painted, to the Brotherhood. One is of St John the Baptist and one of the Great Martyr George. She has also kindly given us a number of smaller icons from her collection.
ROOFING FUND
THE ROOFING FUND now (8/9/09) stands at £49,997.38, and, to insure that we do not have to activate our loan agreement with the CAF Bank Ltd - a thing which will cost us £500 in itself and involve us in paying interest, - we need to raise a further £9,000 before the end of the month. Please help! If you cannot give, please consider an interest free loan.
PRACTICAL TIP
MANY ORTHODOX CHRISTIANS spiritually survive, if one can call it that, by attending the Liturgy occasionally. Others, more conscientious, try to attend regularly and to observe the feasts and the fasts. Yet others, quite properly, make a rule to say their prayers morning and evening. But many quite forget spiritual reading. This is important, because it is spiritually nourishing. Without that spiritual nourishment, one will find oneself empty spiritually, simply keeping religious observances, and finding less and less purpose in that as time goes by. So try, every day, to read something , if only for ten minutes or so, of Orthodox spiritual content.
