BAPTISM AT SAINT EDWARD’S

On Sunday 24th July / 6th August, Alexander, the infant son of Danny and Olga Moore of Aldershot, was baptised at St Edward’s. Father Peter Baulk was the celebrant, and Alexander’s sponsors were Patrick and Rima Lewis and Diana Hodgson. God grant that, through the prayers of his name saint, the Right-Believing Prince Alexander Nevsky, this newly illumined servant of God will be kept in the faith of a pure confession until his dying day.

VISIT OF BISHOP BASIL

HAVING phoned us the previous day, His Grace Bishop Basil of Wichita and the Mid-West (Antiochian Patriarchate) visited the Brotherhood on 24th August this year, accompanied by the Priest Josias. The two visitors first visited the church and venerated the shrine of St Edward, and then came to the house for refreshments, staying with us for about two hours.

VISIT OF BISHOP PAUL

ON THE FEAST of the Dormition, Bishop Paul of Tracheia, who lives in France but was staying with his sister in Virginia Water after returning from a pilgrimage to Russia, arrived towards the end of the Divine Liturgy. His Grace venerated the Shrine, and after the Divine service greeted the parishioners who had assembled for the feast before joining us in the Brotherhood house for coffee.

FESTIVAL IN CORBY

SAINT ELIAS DAY is the dedication festival of the Serbian Orthodox Church in Corby, Northants, and on the nearest Sunday, 30th July, at the invitation of the Protopresbyter-Stavrophore Vido Vukovic, the parish priest, Fr Alexis concelebrated the the Divine Liturgy in their beautifully frescoed church with Protopresbyter-Stavrophore Slobodan Radojcie of Derby. Fr Vido himself did not serve but led the choir. After the Liturgy a Slava service was chanted, and then participants were invited to a festive meal in the adjoining church hall.

LAST WEEKEND IN AUGUST

HIS GRACE Bishop Agapit of Stuttgart visited London to celebrate their dedication festival with the parishioners at the Harvard Road Church of the Dormition. Fr Paul Elliott of the St Elizabeth Mission in Birkenhead came down to represent the English clergy there, and stayed at the Brotherhood for the Saturday and Sunday immediately before the feast, joining us in the Divine services on those days. For the Vigil of the Dormition, we were also joined by Fr Stavros Solomou of the St Nicolas Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Shepherd’s Bush London, and on the day itself in addition to Bishop Paul, we had numbers of Serbian Orthodox friends attend the Divine Liturgy.

GIFTS TO THE BROTHERHOOD

HIS GRACE Bishop Photii of the Traditionalist Bulgarian Orthodox Church has kindly sent us a large icon of the New Martyrs of Batak for the church. Also Reader Sreto Duracic has donated a handcarved icon of the Mother of God, so that it might be sold in aid of the New Monastic House Building Fund.

KEOTCo Ltd

FOR PERSONAL REASONS, Elizabeth Castle has recently found it necessary to resign as a trustee/director of the King Edward Orthodox Trust Company Limited (registered charity number 284929/0). Thank Goodness, Elizabeth will remain a member of the charity and will continue as our treasurer. She has held this position since the charity’s very inception in 1981/2 and worked tirelessly in preparing accounts for the auditors, the Charity Commissioners and for Companies’ House. It is a continuous work that perhaps often goes unnoticed and unacknowledged, but for which we are extremely grateful.
