KEOTCoLtd AGM
THE AGM of the charity which administers the Brotherhood property at Brookwood, the King Edward Orthodox Trust Company Limited, registered charity number 284929/0, was held in the Exhibition Room on Sunday 5th July, n.s. In addition to the usual business, this year our Architect, Irina Hoble-Aldersley, gave a report on the re-roofing of the Church and its progress.
BROOKWOOD CEMETERY
NEWS was released last month that “English Heritage” has upgraded the Brookwood Cemetery to a Grade One Historic Park and Garden. According to press reports, only some 140 (out of a total of 1,450) sites in the country have the prestigious Grade 1 status. We are sure that this is the fruit of the excellent work on improving the cemetery that has been put in in recent years, despite several setbacks, by the present owner and managing director, Mr. Erkin Guney (Egg) and his wife Melanie, and their staff.
Also, on Wednesday, 22nd July n.s., The Brookwood Cemetery Society held their AGM in the main hall of the Brotherhood’s Old Mortuary Building. The official proceedings were preceded by a talk given by our Father Thomas on Bookbinding, in which he gave a short history of the practice, and then showed those present the materials used, and explained something of the skills involved. After the official business, refreshments were offered to the participants and, at Mr. Guney’s invitation, they were given an opportunity to visit and see inside the nearby Columbarium, which is shortly to undergo necessary restoration work. The members of the society were also given the opportunity to visit our Exhibition room.
VISITORS
PROTOPRESBYTER KYRILLOS LERET-ALDIR (Œc.Patr) of Bristol paid us a surprise visit on Thursday 9th July n.s., and spent some time with our Father Niphon discussing the difficulties facing canonical Orthodoxy in this country today and his misgivings about it.
FR IOAN FEODOR from Poole and Fr Deacon Paul from Birmingham (RP) visited and served a liti at the grave of Irina Bontea and blessed her new headstone on 4th July. Romanian friends of Irina then shared a mercy meal in her memory.
