BAPTISM AT SAINT EDWARD’S

THE INFANT SON of Leo and Gabriella Pepper of Kingston-upon-Thames, Daniel, was baptized, chrismated and received the Holy Mysteries for the first time at Saint Edward’s Church on Sunday 2nd / 15th July.  Daniel is named after the Holy Prophet Daniel (feastday: 17th / 30th December), and his godparents were Dan Niculescu-Duvaz and Irina Aldersley.  After the ceremony, the relatives and friends of the family had a celebratory meal under the cedar tree on the lawn.  On the following Sunday, his godparents brought Daniel to receive the Holy Mysteries again and for the prayer for the removal of his chrism-robe.  May the Lord God, Who has received Daniel into His fold, ever keep him in the saving confession of Orthodoxy of faith and practice.

KEOTCoLtd AGM

THE CHARITY which administers our property here at Brookwood, the King Edward Orthodox Trust Company Limited (registered charity number 284929/0), held their Annual General Meeting on Sunday 8th July (n.s) at the Brotherhood.  This year had been one of the most active in the charity’s existence.  At the last AGM, we had only just appointed an employer’s agent and accepted a tender for the building of the new house.  Now the building is approaching completion.  Also in the year since the last AGM we have raised just under £200,000 for the Building Fund.  We had also had rather more changes of personnel than normally.  Mr Aleksic offered his resignation early in the period because his time is now spent more and more in Serbia; Gabriel and Helena Lawani resigned when they left the former ROCOR, to which we then belonged.  And Fr Peter Baulk resigned when our community left the former ROCOR, believing that it would be inappropriate to remain a trustee while he remained a priest in that church.  To all of these we offer our thanks for the help and support that they gave us in the past.  May God’s blessings be with them.  At the AGM a new member of the company was elected and consented to join us, Mrs Elena Holden of Kempshott, Hampshire, who works so tirelessly to organise the Parish Breakfasts throughout the year.  Oddly enough in the 24 years that we were a ROCOR community, we happened never to have a Russian trustee, now we are under a Greek episcopate, we have one!   The present directors and members of the charity, which legally must be run as a company, are:-

Directors:  Fr Alexis (chairman), Monk Niphon, Hierodeacon Sabbas (elected secretary at this AGM), & Elizabeth Castle (treasurer).

Members:  Fr Stephen Fretwell,  Laurence Bloom-Davis,  Grace Meeking, James Merritt, Irina Aldersley, and Elena Holden.
