BOOKBINDING

MOST READERS will be aware that our Fr Thomas has learned  bookbinding from the Sisters of the Convent of the Annunciation in Willesden, who have helped us immensely in this respect.  This work has in turn proved a valuable source of income for the day-to-day support of the monastic brotherhood here.  Recently Fr Thomas received a second qualification in this field, being awarded a Graduate Diploma in Bookbinding and Book Restoration from the London College of Communication.  This diploma was awarded with distinction, and to attain it Fr Thomas had both to write a thesis and present examples of his work to the examining board.

GROUP VISITS

IN THE PAST MONTH, we had two major group visits, as well as many individuals coming.  On 7th July, Fr Niphon welcomed a group of teenagers with learning difficulties, who came to visit the church from the Pond Meadow Special School in Guildford.  And on 17th, about sixty members of the 2nd New Haw Scout Group came to visit Saint Edward’s.

GRAVE RESERVATIONS

WE HAVE MAINTAINED the prices for grave reservations in the Orthodox Cemetery here for a number of years, but have now decided to adjust them, so that the cemetery income is sufficient to maintain the cemetery.  A single depth grave will now cost £300, and a double depth one may be had for £500.

FORMER PARISHIONER ORDAINED

ONE OF BROOKWOOD’S former parishioners, Gabriel Lawani, who left us some time ago to move to the Manchester area, and then joined Fr Paul Elliot’s parish, subsequently left the Russian Church Abroad and placed himself under the jurisdiction of the Synod of Archbishop Chrysostomos II.  Over the weekend of 30th June - 1st July, he was ordained deacon and priest by Bishop Photios of Marathon.
