POINTS FROM CORRESPONDENCE

“When one needs help in times of trouble one would seek out for help, can anyone suggest what prayers need reading?” - E.V. by e-mail.

HOW TO PRAY for a special purpose:

A) say your morning and evening prayers regularly,
B) attend the church services as much as possible,
C) then if you wish to make special prayers for some purpose. A good idea is to read an extra canon or an akathist every day. This gives some discipline and shape to your prayers. Otherwise you will find that you are throwing up the occasional prayer simply when you are in the mood or have a thought about it, and not continuing in prayer for your intention.

Pray for us too, please.

FROM THE SACRED CANONS

“As many persons as have been guilty of serious lapses and have been ordained in ignorance thereof, or even after the ordainers have become aware thereof, will not be admitted under the Ecclesiastical Canon. For when they have become known, they shall be deposed.”
