NEW MONASTIC HOUSE TO BE STARTED!
THE BUILDING of the new monastic house at Saint Edward Brotherhood, Brookwood, is to begin, DV, at the end of July / beginning of August. The first and major part of the whole development scheme - (the building of the house and the refurbishment of the old mortuary chapel to provide a church hall, overnight guest accommodation, and an exhibition area [with disabled toilets] to show visitors something of the history of the site) - should be completed by Pascha 2007.
On the advice of our agent, Tony Sumners of King Sumners Partnership, the Building Committee accepted a tender for the work from H.W. Fisher and Son, Aldershot. This decision was endorsed at the King Edward Orthodox Trust Company Limited AGM on Sunday 25th June, and we have arranged a pre-start site meeting with the contractors for 14th July.
This obliges us to be in a position to pay the contractors approximately £500,000 by March next year. At the moment we have raised £419,000, of which £17,700 has already been spent, - on planning costs, initial surveys, environmental searches, professional fees, etc. This leaves us a present shortfall of approximately £100,000 to be raised in the next eight months. Please help bring this work to a good conclusion by giving as generously as you can. If you are unable to offer a donation, perhaps you would consider offering a loan at a competitive rate. This too would be appreciated. Or help to make our appeal more generally known in any way you can. And of course, we ask the support of your prayers in the coming months for what is the biggest venture our monastic-missionary community has ever undertaken since it was founded in 1982.
