GROUP VISITS
ON 21st MAY the Religious Studies department of Sir William Perkins’ School Chertsey, a group of approximately 85 girls, led by John Ware, visited Saint Edward’s Church and were given a talk by Father Niphon.
On 26th May, John Clarke brought committee members of the Surrey Historic Buildings Trust to see the church.
ICON EXHIBITION
BROTHERHOOD members were invited to the opening of an exhibition of the icons of Tatiana Kolibaba, who has been so generously to our community by giving her hand-painted icons to us. The exhibition, called “Cloud of Witnesses” was held at Pushkin House in London. Unfortunately we were unable to attend the opening of the exhibition, but the following Sunday Tatiana, who lives in Saint Petersburg, attended the Divine Liturgy at Brookwood, and invited us to come on some other day. Fr Alexis was away for most of the week, and so Fr Niphon visited the exhibit on 31st May and was kindly shown around by the gallery director, Julian Gallant.
VISIT TO THE “FAR NORTH”
SOME of the parishioners in the now closed St Werburgh’s Mission in Congleton (ROCOR) have transferred with us to the Synod in Resistance. One, Peter B. Stacey, is now unable to travel having suffered a stroke, and Fr Alexis visited him to give him Holy Communion during Pentecost Week, when travelling is easier. He was kindly offered hospitality by Mrs Barbara Worth, in whose garden the former mission Chapel once stood, and she invited Subdeacon Vincent Gibbons, his wife, Denise and their daughter Phoebe to join us for the evening meal. These members of the former mission have not joined us in our transfer to SiR, but now attend the Antiochian parish of St Michael, Audley, Stoke-on-Trent, where the pastor is Father Samuel Carter. It was good to meet these former parishioners again, and Fr Alexis is extremely grateful for their kindness and hospitality.
