URGENT CHURCH ROOF
APPEAL
ON SAINT EDWARD’S SPRING FEAST, 18th / 31st March, our Architect, Irina Hoble-Aldersley, of Eulinea Architecture & Design, Worcester Park, received the tenders for the re-roofing of Saint Edward’s Church and the other ancillary works, and she presented them to our Building Committee. Irina has now professionally assessed the tenders, and we now have a much clearer picture of our financial position.
It appears that some people have been misled by the tallies we send out each week to parishioners on the progress of the Building Fund. The last total was £713,390.45 (30/3/09) - but this is NOT money which we have in hand. It is simply the monies that we have collected or have had pledged since the appeal began. By far the greater part of this money has already been spent in building the New Monastic House, in Refurbishing the Old Mortuary Chapel, in providing the Exhibition Room, and in landscaping around the new development.
We now have just under £90,000 in the Fund, and with a deposit in our general fund we can make this up to £115,000. The cost of the re-roofing of the Church, re-doing the electric circuits, security system and the various other minor works included in this third and last phase of our project will be approximately £162,500. This means that we have a shortfall of £47,500.
The contractors, who submitted tenders, were recommended by the Architect of the Surrey Churches Preservation Trust, and we believe that, given the current credit crunch, we are probably getting a very good price at this time. For these reasons, and because we would like the work to be undertaken in the period after Easter, it seems advisable go ahead with the project as soon as possible.
Because of the need to raise this money within the next few months, we ask our supporters to give as generously as possible. Also because of the urgency of this appeal, if any of you feel unable to give a great deal, but are in a position to offer us an interest free loan, so that the work might be completed, we would greatly welcome that. (Interest rates are so low at the moment that this might be an advantageous time to think of such an option!).
Ms Hoble-Aldersley is willing to send details of the approved roofing scheme to anyone who would like to know a little more about the technical side of things. Her office address is: Eulinea, 51 Forest Side, Worcester Park, Surrey, KT4 7PA
Please help us as generously as you can and as quickly as you can. All donations should be made out to King Edward Orthodox Trust Co Ltd (except those in US dollars which should be made payable to Saint Edward Brotherhood - and we will transfer them). If you are a UK tax-payer, please ensure that your donation is gift-aided, so that we may boost your contribution by reclaiming the tax already paid upon it.
If you are unable to help us financially, please at least help us by making our appeal known, and by supporting it by your prayers.
