These are the names, thus far, of Fathers and Monks as of this publishing, who up to now commemorated OEcumenical Patriarch Bartholomew. There are many others who are now asking to add their names to this list of Holy Mountain Orthodox confessors.

The editor’s notes in this article have been added, not by the editor of “The Shepherd” but by the editor of the website on which this letter has been posted. We have listed the signatories of this Protest because surely they deserve to be remembered in our prayers and commemorated in our Liturgies.

FROM THE SACRED CANONS

“AS FOR THOSE who, on account of some heresy condemned by Holy Synods or Fathers, sever themselves from communion with their president, that is, because he publicly preaches heresy and with bared head teaches teaches it in the Church, such persons as these are not subject to canonical penalty for walling themselves off from communion with the so-called bishop before synodical clarification, but they shall be deemed worthy of due honour among the Orthodox. For not bishops, but false bishops and false teachers have they condemned, and they have not fragmented the Church’s unity with schism, but from schism and divisions have they earnestly sought to deliver the Church.”

Canon XV of the First & Second Council of Constantinople

Note: Doubtless it is on the basis of this canon that the many Athonite Fathers who are now refusing to commemorate their former president, the OEcumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, are making their stand, and as the canon teaches, they “shall be deemed worthy of due Honour among the Orthodox.”
